David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, talked with Tom Cruise, leading to a private Cruise screening at his home in Beverly Hills.
The superhero movie The Flash is coming out on June 16 and has been done and locked for a few months. Inside the studio, it has a lot of fans, including the new co-head of DC, James Gunn, who said it was “probably one of the best superhero movies ever made.”
Now, actor, star, and movie-saver Tom Cruise is a fan of it outside the studio.
The Hollywood Reporter says that sources say Cruise has seen the movie and loved it so much that he called the director, Andy Muschietti, out of the blue to discuss it.
Several sources say that Cruise met with David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, at the end of February. During the meeting, the mogul told Cruise how great the movie was. Cruise was interested enough to ask to see it. Zaslav granted the request, and a copy of the film was sent to Cruise.
But an insider says that this was more than just a simple message. A worker from Warners brought The Flash to Cruise’s home in Beverly Hills and stayed there until the actor was done watching it. Whether Cruise watched it on a digital device or a film is still being determined. When Cruise was done, he gave the movie to a messenger, who returned it to the studio.
The Cruise was so moved by what he saw that he called Muschietti immediately. The director got a call out of the blue. Insiders say Cruise loved the movie and said, “Flash is everything you want in a movie” and “this is the kind of movie we need right now.”
Cruise has been paid a lot for his dedication to the theatre. People say that his share of Maverick made him $100 million.
Ezra Miller plays the Red Speedster on The Flash. Michael Keaton is back as Batman, and Miller is in charge of the rest of the cast. Ben Affleck could also go back to playing Batman.
The movie has taken a long time to get to the big screen. There have been many changes in directors, but Miller has stayed with the project the whole time. In recent years, Miller has had personal problems that made it hard for him to make the movie and get it out to the public.
But the long way is almost over. Warners thinks so highly of it that it will show the whole movie to theatre owners at CinemaCon in April, nearly two months before it comes out in theatres.
Cruise has become a boost for movies and theatre in recent years. Steven Spielberg told the actor at the Academy Luncheon, caught on video and went viral, “You saved Hollywood’s ass, and you might have saved theatrical distribution.” He was talking about how Cruise fought to keep Top Gun: Maverick in theatres instead of on streaming services. This helped the movie make $1.49 billion and helped get people back to the film last spring and summer.
And in 2020, when the pandemic was at its worst, a video of the actor driving through London to see Christopher Nolan’s film Tenet went viral. “I loved it!” has become a meme among movie fans on social media thanks to his enthusiastic review.
