Khabarovsk records first-ever aortic valve bioreplacement in Russia

Khabarovsk, May 26 – Yevgeny Nikonov, deputy head of the regional government for social issues, said that cardiac surgeons of the Federal Center for Cardiovascular Surgery in Khabarovsk were the first in Russia to implant a transcatheter aortic valve.

He noted that the operation helped save an 83-year-old patient with aortic stenosis, who was discharged after 11 days “with a significant improvement in health.”

According to the center, an elderly patient is from the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Complaints of shortness of breath were accepted with minimal exertion. Ultrasound of the heart revealed severe stenosis of the aorta.

Transcatheter aortic valves Myval from the Indian company Meril have been used in the world since 2020. Previously, only Medtronic and MedInzh valves were used in the center for such operations. Now the plans are to actively use Myval valves.
